Feilding (Agricultural) High School, established in 1921, serves the wider Manawatu community and surrounding areas. We take pride in our rich history and commitment to agricultural education. With two farms - a 16Ha Dairy Unit and an 81Ha Sheep and Beef Unit - our school offers diverse programs, with approximately half of our 1600 students studying agriculture each year.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Farm Assistant to join our Agriculture team, working collaboratively with the Farm Manager and Teaching staff to ensure excellence in agricultural education. This full-time permanent position may involve weekend work, as per a roster, and offers a unique blend of farm and classroom-based duties, creating a stimulating work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Farm Manager in the daily care and management of the Dairy and Sheep/Beef Units.
• Collaborate with the Teaching team to support hands-on learning experiences for students.
• Maintain farm infrastructure, ensuring a safe and clean environment.
• Participate in the planning and execution of agricultural events and projects.
• Provide guidance and supervision to students during practical sessions on the farm.
• Work on a flexible schedule, accommodating the academic and agricultural calendar.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Previous experience in farm management or a related field is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of agricultural practices and a passion for hands-on education.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Basic mechanical and technical skills related to farm equipment.

Remuneration:

Negotiable with the Principal during the appointment process, expected salary band is $55 - $70K, plus phone and plan.
