Horticulture Assistant Role in Omaha, Auckland

About Us:

EYG Limited is experiencing significant growth, proudly supplying the freshest organic produce directly to Auckland's top restaurants, cafes, and independent supermarkets. As a core member of the Eat Your Greens team, you'll work alongside our founder, Ian, to ensure the seamless operation of delivery days and the overall care of our greenhouses and growing areas.

Position Details:

  • Role: Produce Cultivator (Horticulture Assistant)
  • Type: Permanent Part-Time
  • Start Date: 16th February
  • Shift Times: Tuesday and Friday, 6:00 am - 3:30 pm (not negotiable)
  • Additional Hours: Further availability preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Harvest, pick, and pack our organic produce.
  • Prepare for and pack down after harvest.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the harvest and packing areas, tidy garden beds, and manage garden waste.
  • Assist with local deliveries.
  • Care for produce and gardens through watering, pruning, weeding, and fertilizing.
  • Prepare new garden beds using hand tools and/or machinery, planting, transplanting seeds, plants, bulbs, and flowers.
  • Load, unload, and move produce, soil, supplies, and equipment (heavy lifting involved).
  • Maintain and adjust irrigation systems, shade, and ventilation within the greenhouse and shade-house.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of prior work experience in a similar role.
  • Education within the Horticulture sector is desirable but not essential.
  • Physical fitness and ability to undertake manual, labor-intensive, and sometimes heavy lifting.
  • Excellent communication skills with a team-player attitude.
  • Enthusiasm for fast-paced outdoor work.
  • Passion for sustainable and organic growing practices, with a keen interest in learning.
  • Motivated, flexible, and innovative approach to market gardening.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Consistency in work, ability to work at pace, and high integrity.

Qualifications:

  • Unrestricted New Zealand Driver's License.
  • Full working rights in New Zealand.
