Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Stud Hand to join our team. As a Stud Hand at Swettenham Stud, you will play a crucial role in the daily care and management of our world-class Thoroughbred breeding operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning and mucking out horse stables/yards
  • Day-to-day preparation and dispersing of feed regimes to horses
  • Handling and grooming of young stock and mares
  • Assisting with the management of horses during veterinary and farrier visits
  • Performing drenching, vaccinations, and veterinary treatments as instructed
  • Preparing horses for departure and reporting any injuries or illnesses prior to departure
  • Following a rotating roster, including weekends
  • Other duties as required

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with horses, particularly in a stud or breeding environment
  • Knowledge of equine health, basic veterinary care, and horse handling techniques
  • Ability to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks related to horse stables and yards
  • Strong work ethic and a genuine passion for the equine industry
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform tasks that require manual labor
  • Flexibility to work weekends and participate in a rotating roster
