Job Description:

As a Hatchery Technician, you will play a vital role in sustaining our environment and contributing to the success of our hatchery. Here's what the role entails:

  • Undertake night shift duties when required, attending to alarms and completing assigned overnight tasks.
  • Work in all environments, including cold and wet conditions, wearing waders, and standing in cold water for extended periods.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure the smooth operation of the hatchery.
  • Handle both large and small brood fish, performing tasks such as dip netting.
  • Demonstrate a love for fish and a willingness to learn salmon biology.
  • Solve problems calmly and efficiently, ensuring the safety of yourself and the team.
  • Adapt to new hatchery techniques and expand your skillset.
  • Follow set procedures and directions outlined in reports.
  • Familiarity or a willingness to learn about RAS and flow-through systems.
  • Learn and manage water quality parameters, including oxygen requirements for fish.
  • Perform daily tank hygiene, remove mortalities, and conduct routine system checks.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Ability to work in varying environments, including cold and wet conditions.
  • Strong teamwork skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Physical capability to handle repetitive tasks involving fish handling.
  • Enthusiasm for fish biology (previous knowledge is desirable but not mandatory).
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Commitment to safety and effective communication of concerns.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and expand your skillset.
  • Familiarity or a willingness to learn about RAS and flow-through systems.
