Summary:
We are currently seeking both Breeding Technicians and Farrowing Technicians to join our team at multiple locations in Minnesota. These positions are pivotal in maintaining our breeding and farrowing targets, ensuring proper animal care, and contributing to our overall goal-oriented system.
Locations: Amboy, Bingham Lake, Fort Ripley, Granada, Hector, Lafayette, Little Falls, Nicollet & Winnebago, MN
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Breeding Technician Responsibilities:
- Ensure ethical treatment of animals
- Assist Department Lead
- Perform daily artificial insemination (AI) breeding
- Conduct routine estrous checks and monitor bred groups
- Administer vaccinations as directed
- Assist with monthly inventory counts
- Maintain feed for bred and open animals
- Assist the farrowing department
- Maintain accurate breeding records and documentation
Farrowing Technician Responsibilities:
- Uphold ethical treatment of animals
- Assist Department Lead with pre-farrow room preparation
- Execute proper farrowing of sows and day one piglet care
- Perform sow inducing as needed
- Ensure correct sow and piglet pairing; transfer and size piglets
- Maintain lactating sow stalls
- Process and castrate piglets
- Follow piglet weaning procedures
- Assist the breeding department
- Maintain accurate documentation
ALL Farm Employees:
- Demonstrate strong teamwork
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Ensure proper animal husbandry and environment
- Uphold PQA Plus & TQA certification
- Follow WPI training program requirements
- Assist in power washing as assigned
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions
- Follow all safety rules and practices
- Adhere to biosecurity measures as per WPI policies
Basic Qualifications:
- Capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation
- Ability to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication)
- Clear and effective communication skills
- Regular, consistent attendance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Industry experience preferred but not required
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb gates
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity
- Ability to grasp and manipulate light to medium weights (up to 50 pounds)
- Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and effective communication for extended periods
Organizational Relationships:
- Close interaction with Sow Barn Manager, Department Leads, and fellow Technicians
Hours:
- Typically Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm (actual hours vary by location)
- Every 3rd weekend rotation
