About the Role:

Tumbelin Farm is an intensive residential adventure therapy program tailored for 16–21-year-olds struggling with alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues. This early intervention program operates within an adventure therapy framework, aiming to help young individuals overcome their challenges with substance use. As a Counsellor, your role involves engaging with young people and their support network to facilitate family group conferencing and community re-engagement programs. This isn't your typical counseling role; you'll be on the farm, working closely with a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake interviews for prospective program clients.
  • Establish a circle of support for each young person, including family members and significant others.
  • Provide 1:1 counseling sessions and plan and deliver group sessions for residential clients.
  • Coordinate Tumbelin Alumni activities, offering lived experience support to referred young people and their circle of support members.

About You:

  • You excel in building connections with others.
  • You embrace daily farm activities and enjoy supporting residents in these endeavors.
  • You possess a deep understanding of the complex needs and behaviors of clients, including AOD addiction, mental health, and trauma.
  • You have a passion for the outdoors and are excited about working on a unique working farm environment.

Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant degree qualification and/or a diploma with a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in social work, psychology, education, counseling, youth work, adventure therapy, or a related field.
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drug Counselling (or willingness to work towards this or an equivalent qualification).
  • Experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their families.
  • Experience or understanding of working within a Restorative Practice framework.

Specific Requirements:

  • Full unrestricted South Australia Driver’s License.
  • DHS Child-Related Employment Screening or Working With Children check.
  • National Police Clearance.
  • Current Apply First Aid certificate.
  • Training in Secure Environments for Children and Young People (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to work outside of normal office hours may be required.
  • Use of your own vehicle.

Why Work with Us:

  • Competitive salary based on the SCHADS Award (Level 4).
  • A unique working environment in the Adelaide Hills with a close-knit team.
  • Salary Packaging to increase your take-home pay.
  • Corporate health plan with BUPA offering discounted health insurance.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Support for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander employees' cultural and community obligations, including NAIDOC Leave and up to five days Paid Cultural Leave.
