Assistant Farm Manager job in Auckland, New Zealand

Role and Responsibilities:

As the Assistant Farm Manager, you will be an integral part of the farm's leadership team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Farm Manager in planning and executing oyster farming operations.
  • Ensuring the well-being and growth of oysters using innovative farming techniques.
  • Managing a team of 4-6 crew members, coordinating tasks, and ensuring productivity.
  • Maintaining high-quality standards for oyster processing and grading.
  • Collaborating with the processing facility for oyster delivery and requirements.
  • Leading the farm in the absence of the Farm Manager.
  • Contributing to the implementation of strategies for business growth.
  • Coordinating maintenance-related tasks and ensuring a clean and organized farm environment.
  • Maintaining knowledge of tide and weather conditions for effective planning.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of three years' experience in the aquaculture industry, preferably in oyster farming.
  • Competent Skipper (valid licence required) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Proven managerial skills and ability to lead a team.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with crew, farm manager, and processing facility.
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities, especially during high demand periods.
  • Full and clean driver's license.
  • Passion for sustainable farming and maintaining environmental standards.
  • Flexibility to work weekends if required.
