Oyster Farm job in Coromandel, New Zealand

Job Description:

  • As an Oyster Farm Worker - Leading Hand, you will play a key role in the daily operations of our oyster farms in Coromandel. Reporting to the Farm & Shore Manager, your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting in the allocation of daily activities to the team
  • Serving as a Skipper of the oyster farm vessel (barge) for the deployment of flip farm lines, removal of old infrastructure, and maintenance-related tasks
  • Ensuring compliance with maritime rules and regulations while operating the barge and leading the crew onboard
  • Providing guidance and support to the farm crew in following correct procedures for oyster husbandry practices
  • Updating data systems accurately with relevant information
  • Monitoring tide and weather conditions to plan work effectively in coordination with the Farm & Shore Manager and Farm Supervisor

Requirements:

  • At least two years of Aquaculture farming experience, or one year of Aquaculture farming experience and a relevant tertiary qualification in Aquaculture/Marine Science or equivalent
  • Commitment to Health & Safety practices
  • Competent Skipper with a valid license
  • Task-oriented with a track record of delivering outcomes on time
  • Full and clean NZ Driver's License and reliable transportation to/from work
  • Ability to work weekends
